Now to get into more detail about what makes the graphics so beautiful. That being said, I still would not change this given the chance to because I can see the benefit of it to some people. This just strikes me as odd and it has no effect on the gameplay in any way. When a unit finishes it's turn, rather than staying the position it is already in, it reverts to a standard "facing right" position. The only qualm I have with the graphics is this. ![]() However we come to the reason I have rated it a nine instead of a ten. ![]() I love the graphics just the way they are and that's final. I personally wouldn't change a thing if I had the chance to. From the sprites, to the environments, to the battle animations. I guess that's most of the basic info for the game so let's move on to the beef of this review so I can start talking about how great this game is. I will cover these modes and more during the depth section so just wait until then for more information on that. The game has several game modes including Campaign, Vs Mode, and Link mode. You control one of their armies and fight the other(s) until their army is destroyed. These countries are Orange Star, Blue moon, Green Earth, and Yellow Comet. The game takes place during a war between four color coded countries. Advance Wars is a turn based strategy game for the Game Boy Advance. Hello everyone and welcome to my review of what is now one of my favorite games, "Advance Wars." I will start by saying I have been having so much fun playing this game and that you can expect high scores in the future. This game felt more like an expansion than a new game, but it is endlessly challenging through the campaign as well as the war room which has dozens of levels to unlock and master.Advance Wars Review by: TheJJ405 - 9.5/10 Playing with peoples lives is FUN!! OH damn, that was a trip. Players can also charge up for a super power move in addition to the usual power move, which is very similar but offers even more bonus's for that turn.Īll in all if you are a fan of turn based strategy games you should definitely give this one a try, but you might want to start with the first. There are also a handful of new COs and single new unit the neotank, which make it easy to transition into this game. The only differences between this game and its predecessor is the fact that you play as all the different nations in the ca mpaign mode, not just orange star like the original. It is up to you to take the role of Commanding officer and take back your homeland. Units lose offensive and defensive capabilities as they lose health so it is very important to plan ahead.Īdvance wars 2 picks up shortly after the original left off with the black hole army almost pushing every other nation's forces into the sea. The battle system in this game has all the units start with 10 hit points which are lost when being attacked or from a counter attack which happen automatically. ![]() As in the original, gamers can also challenge their friends in both single- and multi-pak head-to-head battles.Īdvance wars, a turn based strategy game based around ground, sea and air units is by far one of the best made in last decade and its sequel black hole rising does not disappoint. A Map Editor allows players to create their own battlefields. Advance Wars 2 features new units as well as new Commanding Officer characters, along with their new CO powers. Players must gather forces and protect the land from his assaults. Sturm, the commander of the Black Hole Army, is threatening to invade Cosmo Land. Even Nell is back, to offer guidance and encouragement along the way. Sonja, Grit, and Sami reprise their roles as well. Andy returns to the battlefield, full of youthful exuberance. Many favorite characters from the original Advance Wars are back in Black Hole Rising. What at first may appear to be a cartoonish "kiddies version" of a PC hex-map war game is actually designed to offer the balance, sophistication, and options to hold the interest of even veteran grognards. Like the original, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising features a cast of amiable characters whose cute anime-style belies challenging, strategically complex gameplay. Turn-based battle advances with this sequel to the acclaimed GBA launch title.
